Tyson, Dan and I went out last night for our usual monthly S&G outing minus a few regular players.
We met a woman named Sharon at Cesar Chavez park who desperately wanted affirmation that people would continue praying for her that God would give her peace, mercy and the strength to get out of alcohol abuse and witchcraft. She had a lot going on and wasn't always the friendliest character. At the same time, she possessed a humble candor that resulted in a very open confession of her weaknesses. She also just wept as I hugged her, saying, "Sometimes I just need a hug." -- Don't we all have that need? Please join us in continuing to pray for God to fill her life, and for her to repeatedly make the right choices to partner with what God is doing in her life to bring the peace, mercy, and strength that only He can give.
We took multi-packs of street stuff, and a load of otter pops that were freshly frozen. The combination of the heat and the frozen popsicles brought out the kid in many of the people we met. In our unscientific approach, we learned that red seems to be a very popular flavor among adult Otter Pop fans. We'll look forward to going out again with our posse next month with more Otter Pops in tow.
We're also starting to think about a soup and cornbread makeshift meal in the Ahearn area after the cool of fall starts to set in. Let us know if you'd like to be a part of donating hearty soup, corn bread or other goodies for this outing (date TBA pending the weather.) I've already got a load of hot cups that we could use to serve the soup in.
It's a good work that God calls us to on the streets that is always full of new surprises. One of the Proverbs in the Message version reads, "When right-living people bless the city, the city flourishes. " I invite each of you to consider your role in blessing your city in the next few weeks.

Good to hear all went well. We thought and prayed for the outing last night and we will pray for Sharon.
Kel and I are so into the soup and corn bread idea. Kel and I talked about that after the last event. We were thinking how much easier soup and bread would be to serve than hot dogs so put us down for a large pot of soup when we do the event.
Amen, brothers and sisters
Sounds like it was a good time and that you guys were able to really care for some folks as well as direct them toward healing. And bringing out the kid is definitely a good thing, so let's see more of that happen.
The red one... I may be mistaken, but didn't Neo swallow the red pill also?
Keep me posted on the soup deal. That is a great idea.
