Maybe I just don't get it (or they don't) but my vision for the church is a group of Christ followers who on Sundays after some time to reflect in corporate worship would go out and truly love the world in real and relevant ways. How huge would that be if every week churches of hundreds went out and really tried to live out the life that Jesus commanded us to do. To love or neighbors and our brothers (and sisters) as ourselves. That alone would speak to the world in great ways more than any mailer could ever do. I really like what Ryan wrote a few blogs back about helping people get back on their feet by helping with rides to work or maybe even inviting them into your home. If Christians truly believed that this world is temporary this should be common place but I think it actually scares the crap out of people because its out of the comfort zone.
peace!

Mike-
Good words. They resonate in my heart.
You know, it has been awesome to see what is happening in your life over these past months and to see how God is using you and stirring such passion in you, especially as it comes to loving the homeless.
I guess for me, when I think about all that the church is called to be and could be, a good question to ask is: Where is the starting point? How do we begin to learn to be a people who does what you envision in this post? (not a rhetorical question, so if anyone is reading this and you have some thoughts, share 'em)
I don't know about you, but there is certainly a gap in my life between what I say I believe and what I do. So on that note, I hope I can be someone today that loves other as if they were myself, just like you said (and like Jesus said).
p.s. Congrats on the first post.
