Turkey in the Park Sign-Ups

Turkey in the Park is quickly approaching in just two weeks (December 10th at 2:30pm at Southside Park- see previous post for details), so this post will cover some of the logistics involved in pulling off this meal. My hope is that we can combine our hearts, energy, and cooking skills (or buying skills) to have a tremendous time of relating to the homeless and eatin' some good food.

WAYS TO GET INVOLVED:

  • Eat with us.
  • Cook something / Buy Something /Ask someone else to cook.
  • Be creative.
  • We need 2 people to arrive early at the park by 2-3 hours to reserve tables. Make it a date?
  • Be a part of a group that goes out on the night of Saturday, December 9th in order to pass out invitation flyers.
  • Other (what do you envision?)
  • Invite others to be involved in this event.
  • Collect clothing and bring in order to let our guests pick through after the meal.

THE MEAL: Stuff to Volunteer to Bring
The following items below are things that we will need for the meal. The way you sign up to bring something is by commenting on this blog post below. We hope that this will serve as a easy and effective way to communicate together, so simply let us know your name and then what you are bringing. Of course, the question arises, how much should you bring? We are thinking that if you sign up for an item, if it can feed between 8-12 people, we should be good. Last time we did this we had 20 volunteers and 40 guests, and hopefully we will have a similar amount this time (could be more, could be less). If someone does not use the computer, then we (or you) can always add his/her name to the comments below upon finding out that he/she is bringing something. And if you have further questions or need clarification, feel free to comment on that below or simply e-mail us at one of the addresses noted below. Lastly, if you see something missing, have a great idea, or you know that a special dish that you make would greatly benefit this meal, then let us know about it and then go for it.

QUICK TIPS:

1. Bring your food hot (unless it's not supposed to be).
2. Please bring appropriate serving utensils for your dish.
3. Thank you for being on time or early.
4. If your dish can serve betwen 8-12, you are on track.
5. Be creative. I wonder if a local coffee house, for example, would donate coffee for this event. I wonder who would like to be involved in this type of thing. I wonder what resources are available for us to tap into.

Thank you again for your heart to serve and for the time you are putting into this.
