We're planning a Turkey in the Park (TIP) event for 12/10/06 at 2:30 PM in Southside Park.
Turkey In the Park is a free, nonprofit holiday feast in the park that allows community volunteers to share a meal with anyone they meet on the streets. People who participated in this event last time still remember how sharing a meal together helps us to learn to see a homeless person for who they are instead of where they live.
TIP 2006 flyers may be seen HERE (PDF file).
About the Location:
Southside park is a large park with awesome play structures accessible for all children, a large lake where you can fish or feed the ducks, several picnic tables, a large grassy play area, a public pool, basketball courts, a small stage, and a jogging course. Hopefully this location will make for a child-friendly environment for parents who choose to include their children in this event. The park's multi-block layout offers lots of space for parents to easily take their children to a different location if at anytime they or their children feel uncomfortable.
If you or a friend would like to help behind the scenes or by bringing something to the event contact one of us as noted on the flyer. We'll probably be using an e-vite to track attendance and the organization of the meal.
Ryan (LocalJustice) and I (KnownByLove) are behind the e-mails noted on the flyer. We'll be using these e-mail addresses for our public flyers and web postings for this and other similar outreach events. Keep watching more info. on additional monthly outreach events through April 2007.
TIP: See people for who they are, not where they live
