I had a conversation with my oldest boy (nearly 3 years old) tonight about passing out socks and gloves to homeless folks in the coming months. He of course doesn't connect with the word "homeless," so I talk about how some people live outside because they do not have houses, and they therefore get cold and such.
Anyway, I wanted to share this conversation because it was touching to me and encouraging for me to be the type of person who responds to local needs.
Me: "We are going to be getting some socks and gloves this week for some people who live outside. And so we can be praying for them..."
Noah: "I'll pass out gloves."
Me: "Yeah, maybe in the daytime. See, we are going to go to the store to buy socks and gloves, and maybe you'll be able to come, we'll see. These people do not have houses..."
Noah: "We can build them a home."
Me: "Well, we don't have enough wood."
Noah: "We can go to Home Depot to get some."
