It's that special time of year where the weather becomes more chilly and the need for gloves will soon increase. This year then I would like to buy as many gloves as possible in order to keep them in the trunk to pass out to homeless folks. If I can get a great deal too, then I'll simply pass out the gloves to friends too so that they can spread the lovin' also.
My question to you:Anyone know of a great place to get cheap gloves (decent quality, low in cost)? I have checked around a bit but no luck so far in finding something inexpensive. Also, if others are interested in this, we can always try to find a distributor who will sell them for cheap to us, and so the more money, the merrier.

I heard you can get cheap gloves at army surplus stores but I've never checked it out myself.

It depends on your intended use for the gloves - 99 cent stores often start carrying simple knit stretchy gloves for men and women as the cold weather prep comes around - some are less than 99 cents. Walmart is easy on price; but not easy on everyone's conscious. I'm down with helping out. Do you envision a few ditribution times for the gloves?
Thanks for the tip PHL.
House of Grace: Well, maybe 99 cent gloves would be the way to go. For now, I have $50 delegated toward this, which certainly will not go far with very nice gloves. Of course though, I'd like hands to be warm, so if the gloves don't do that, then it would be pointless. I would definitely like to steer clear of Walmart where possible.
I envisioned having these in the trunk so that I (and maybe we) could simply stop and pass out or hand out when we see a homeless person at the bank or wherever. I would definitely not be opposed to passing them out though on a Friday night or something like that.
I passed out the simple knit kind the winter before last along with sock and and donated coats and blankets. Socks go over BIG TIME since they can become quite unpleasant if not washed regularly. And hardly anyone turned down gloves either. I just coulnt' have enough of the bigger size for large men's hands.
Count me in for another $50. Also, I've got storage unit space and shelving if we need a place to gather stuff if people want to donate other warm items like a couple years back. It would be tough to start taking items if we don't pre-plan some passing stuff out times.
Ah, socks, great idea. And cool about the 50 bones. I was thinking that we could maybe get a date together in either later October or early November-ish so that we can pass those out. Then maybe that will give us something to work toward as far as accepting donations and such. And what we aren't able to pass out, we can always keep in the trunk and pass out to our friends so we can "love from the trunk" so to speak.
Sarah-
That's a cool idea. Are they usually $1 for a pair or are you lucky enough to find 2 or 3 for a buck? That would be awesome.
I was also thinking if there was a way to try and deliver a hot beverage to our friends mabye in a thermos or something that could be really huge on a cold night.

That would be really cool. If anyone has resources to pull that off, let's do some talkin'.
I just found out about this five minutes ago check it out, pretty cool!!! www.one.org
I just cleaned out the dollar store at Zinfandel & Folsom for socks. It was a ok deal, nice thick warm socks. I still think I could do better. I heard big lots has good deals. I think I will go there next!

KTF- Very cool. I still need to swing by and pick up socks somewhere as I have a certain sum set aside for this. You're paving the way for us.
