When this blog first began I had mentioned that it was important for my neighborhood to work with the local city government in order to see about installing speed bumps or other appropriate devices in order to curb the reality that drivers sense a liberty to speed down on our street and therefore disregard the safety of children especially. Well, finally I have collected at least 10 signatures from ten different households (13 to be exact as of last night) and today the request form along with information regarding our street is being dropped off at City Hall.
I am hoping of course that the local city officials will really consider this request since our street is one major inlet / outlet for an entire neighborhood. In addition, drivers also use our street to cut through and avoid traffic off the main road. We shall see.
Whatever the case, I am thrilled with this whole venture because it is great to talk with neighbors and try to do something that will promote safety for residents. And it has been a positive and fun experience to attempt to partner with local city government to get something done.

Cool stuff... I know it's a pet peeve of mine too, people speeding through my neighborhood. It bothers me that drivers seem to ignore the fact that people actually live in these areas. I wish the cops would enforce the speed limit on the major street by our house, people go like 45 or 50 mph when they shouldnt' be going faster than 25. It's signed for 30 mph, but it's 3 lanes one-way.
I used to conduct traffic calming studies in my old job in NYC, so if the folks at Rancho city hall give you the runaround, I'm here to help!
That's a bummer. I guess we have to be cautious to not be those speeding people ourselves, huh?
For now, an e-mail from the city today said the following: "I did receive your request and we are laying down equipment today to collect driver’s speeds and I will send you a copy of the results".
Hopefully the results will conclude that speed bumps, signage, and/or lines are needed. We shall see.
